For most of human history people believed in a whole range of different gods, half-gods and spirits. This polytheism was replaced in most places by Judaism, Christianity and Islam. That was no easy step and it didn’t happen in one go. This chapter discusses the religions of different groups in Antiquity. The beliefs of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Norsemen are being compared to the monotheistic ideas of Judaism and Christianity.
